Jennie Sweet-Cushman, Ph.D., received her doctorate in political science from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan (2014) and has taught political science and public policy at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania since 2013, where she also served as assistant director of the Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics (2013-2019). A former congressional campaign manager for former Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Michigan), her research focuses on women's political ambition and representation in the U.S., as well as gender equity in academia. Her work has recently been published in such academic outlets as Political Behavior, PS: Political Science & Politics, and the Journal of Academic Ethics and she is currently working on a book-length project on the impact of role models on political behavior and attitudes in the United States. Her media appearances include Politico, The New York Times, Ms. Magazine, USA Today, as well as regular contributions to state and local print, radio, and television media.
